I don't think spleens were covered in the waiver.

So aerial yoga.  That was a thing that happened.  It was pretty neat, but required a great deal of upper body and core strength that I do not possess.  Right at the beginning, the teacher announced that it was going to be an "intermediate to advanced" class... which could have been mentioned at some point on the online schedule, when I called to sign up for the class, or when they called me to confirm that I was taking the class.  But I made it through, though I couldn't hold some of the postures for very long.  I came close to tipping over backward on the first inverted posture, but once I got the hang of it, I wasn't really worried about falling.  I was mostly worried about putting my weight on the wrong part of the sling and bruising, say, my spleen.

I don't have any more free aerial classes from the deal I bought, just four regular classes, and I may or may not go back.  We'll see.  This place is focused more on yoga as exercise, whereas my usual place integrates more of the meditative aspect, and I like that.  Also, call me an old fuddy-duddy, but the stripper music in the background kind of harshes my buzz.  However, I mentioned some of this to my therapist, and she seemed strangely enthusiastic about me trying a pole-dancing class.  I know you don't have to wear the shoes, but have we discussed the part where I have the upper body strength of a baked potato?

Anyway, as promised, I snapped a photo of the merchandise available in the store.

Shoes

In case the picture is unclear, on the bottom shelf we have (from left to right) in rhinestones: a skull and crossbones, a dollar sign, and the word "Sexy."  I did mean to check the prices on them, but quite frankly, it was tiring my arms out just to hold the camera phone at eye level.  Baked.  Potato.

Still struggling mightily with my Kindle, and the online support is no help -- it's mostly about how to buy things from Amazon, which I probably should have expected.  Now I can get Word files to transfer just fine, but PDFs are a mess.  I've been downloading some fic from AO3 as .mobi files, which allows me to edit some of the metadata and choose font size, but adds weird characters in some of the spacing in the text.  I can do all sorts of things with subscriptions to newspapers and bookmarking and syncing across devices, but I can't edit a title or even delete a file without some computer-based maneuvering.

But I can't complain too much about a device that lets me carry around all my favorite fic.  I just worry about what to name my collections in case someone else gets a good look at it.  Call me paranoid, but it's a bit hard to explain a 14-part collection called Captain Spanky. ;o)

Zumba is better than pole dancing and is sexy and good cardio! Obviously the fact that I teach it biases me, but I ALSO started it up when I was in therapy so there you go. DO EET.

My dad's kindle is like a decade old (okay probably not THAT old) so I don't think I can help you. Or him, for that matter.

Captain Spanky would be difficult to explain. Spank.

I hear good things about Zumba... but all I can think about is that old Flash browser game with the Aztec-looking frog spitting out colored balls.

Oops, I was wrong, it was Zuma (http://www.gamehouse.com/online-games/zuma-online). Got me through college, it did. Well, that and Text Twist and Bejeweled and Alchemy...

Those shoes. Oh dear.

I don't have a Touch Kindle, mine's the old decrepit button pushy kind...so I have no helpful advice. :)

Uhhhhh nor I have any helpful suggestions re: Spanky other than CS. :D

I BLAME YOOOOOU.

Also, everything's now filed under "Personal Documents," so I think we're safe. ;o)

Kindle

I have a kindle touch and here's what I do
I was having the same problems as you, so i looked around and found that you can't really make the font bigger once its on the kindle (You can do that thing where you use your fingers, but that sucks).
I just copy and paste the story into word. I change the font to "Myriad Pro Light" and set the size to 20 and then save it as a PDF. Then I drag the pdf to my documents file on my kindle. I find that the font is a perfect size for me to read. I know the process is long, but it has saved my eyes.

here's what it looks like:

If you want I can upload some of the stories I've converted for you to test out. Let me know
( also have mine all saved in a collection called "Random Book Samples" But I also keep all my fandom stuff in a file called "Business Expenses", which just shows how paranoid I am)

I'll have to try that.

I've decided to name the collection "personal documents." Just like the porn on my computer is in a file labeled "research."

Completely unrelated, but have you heard of this? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1866249/

[identity profile] the-deep-magic.livejournal.com 2012-02-02 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I had not. That should be interesting.

I've been meaning to try yoga for a while, but all the yoga places near me are so damn expensive! Also, tbqh, I've always thought that pole dancing must be very fun to learn.

Oh, my, these shoes.

[identity profile] the-deep-magic.livejournal.com 2012-02-02 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well, their pole dancing classes seem to be full every week, so somebody's having fun. But do give yoga a shot if you can afford it -- I've actually come to like it quite a bit.

Gee, what's wrong with me? I save all the fanfic in a folder called...wait for it...FANFIC.

Yeah, I'm not paranoid at all. ;/

[identity profile] the-deep-magic.livejournal.com 2012-02-02 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I made a fatal mistake of printing from the home computer when I was in high school and even though I managed to talk my way out of it ("I had NO idea that's what that story was about!"), I've been paranoid ever since, even if nobody's likely to look at my stuff.

So... you're eventually going to use all of this knowledge for the greater slashy good, right?

Your dedication to the cause is admirable. ;)

YES, MY ABDOMINAL SORENESS WILL NOT GO IN VAIN.

Ow.

[identity profile] carmanne.livejournal.com 2012-02-01 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I use this site to convert PDFs to mobi files-- much easier to read that way. You can also change the title and the author of the end .mobi file so you don't get awkward questions about fic titles ;) (See also: why I password protect my kindle).

[identity profile] the-deep-magic.livejournal.com 2012-02-02 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! And I may password protect it... we'll see how paranoid I get.

I know this is sort of old post, but Ive recently been thinking of getting a Kindle Touch myself for...reasons(read:fanficpornsmut) but noticed that it only has 4GB of memory (or 3 for user content as they have said on Amazon.com, also that they do not take micro SD mem cards). I guess my question(s) would be how many stories can you fit in that 3GB of memory, as far as long or short stories go. I myself would probably be trying to cram whatever I could in it. Jumping from site to site to find/read said stories on the phone/laptop can get tiresome to a degree, and shy of printing it out and shoving it in the depths of my purse....

TL;DR i guess....would the Touch be a good investment. Or possibly other portable devices that could house many documents?

[identity profile] the-deep-magic.livejournal.com 2012-07-25 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know how many books/fics the Kindle Touch can hold, but my estimate would be "a fuckton." It's not so good with PDF files, since there's no easy way to resize them on the screen, but I've had good luck with .mobi files, and they hardly take up any space at all. The collected works of Shakespeare takes up all of 5,673 kb. Secret Vulcan Mating Rituals, which is just shy of 300K words, takes up 988 kb as a .mobi file downloaded from AO3.

Bottom line: I'm very, very happy with my Kindle, both for books and fic.
