Big ol' rec
Nov. 12th, 2010 11:22 pmOkay, anyone who has not yet read
zjofierose's
rpf_big_bang fic, Wind at Dawn (Noble Things), DO IT.
I would say "drop everything and read it NOW," but I would definitely recommend that you read it a) when you have time to sit down, get away from any distractions, and read the whole thing in one go; and b) where you will not be embarrassed to be found sobbing like a baby. It's not light reading, but it's so, so worth it. I can't vouch for its complete historical accuracy, but it feels incredibly authentic, and she does an amazing job of creating the atmosphere of a dismal, seemingly-endless war as well as the hope that Zach and Chris find in each other.
( Wee preview of my favorite scene -- don't think it's spoilery, but cutting just in case )
Since this is set against the backdrop of a war, there is naturally a ton of angst, some violence, and then more angst -- do read the warnings/spoilers if you need specifics. But I am a total weenie and I survived! I would, however, have
beedlebarg's telepathy fic from Pintopalooza ready to go for afterwards. It's my go-to angst antidote (angstidote?)
Hmmm... gonna go leave
zjofierose a proper comment, then create an "angstidote" tag in my Delicious.
P.S. -- I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN ABOUT MY PROMISED REC POST. I AM TOTES WORKING ON IT!
