help_japan auction
Mar. 14th, 2011 11:10 pmI'm offering at least 1,000 words of fic over at the
help_japan auction here, so go bid on me!
A few years ago, I spent a brief time in Osaka teaching English, and I had the opportunity to visit Kobe, where an earthquake hit in 1995. They left one of the piers the way it was after the quake: cracked and half-sunk, with lamp posts sticking out in odd directions. It was hard to imagine the entire city looking like that, and that quake was "only" a 6.8. Anyway, all the people I still keep in touch with over there are fine -- most of them live south of the affected area -- but I keep thinking about that pier. Obviously, I've seen pictures that show far worse damage from this quake, but something about the pier, surrounded on all sides by everything back to the way it was supposed to look, all straight lines and even curves, really stuck with me.
So, I don't know, that's my story. I know that
ewinfic,
zjofierose,
lallyloo,
kianspo, and
withthepilot are offering fic, and
lousy_science is auctioning signed first editions of a couple of books (if you're on my flist and I left you off, let me know!), so bid early and bid often! Yes, I must say that at every auction, because I still think it's funny. So there.
ETA: I forgot to add that if you'd like, I can write a timestamp for one of my previous fics (e.g. "Title," one month later)
