Well, I finally saw The Social Network!  It was good -- I wasn't totally blown away by it, but I am a horribly jaded cynic when it comes to movies.  Too much of Aaron Sorkin's dialogue starts to sound a little... I guess banter-cutesy after a while, like the characters aren't even listening to each other, but here it didn't bother me at all.  I think he could've allowed for more complexity in the characterizations (Mark Zuckerberg did it all because he was spurned by a girl and couldn't get into the Chicken Club?  Really?), but it was still an interesting story.  Andrew Garfield is a cutie, too.** ;o)

Is Jewnicorn the proper pairing name?  I don't think it's Garfberg.  Anyway, if anyone knows of any outstanding Andrew Garfield/Jesse Eisenberg RPF to rec me, I'll give it a read.

**Though I'm still not prepared to admit that rebooting the reboot of Spiderman isn't the stupidest idea ever.

I saw The King's Speech a little while ago.  It was good, but, again, not life-changing.  I adore just about everyone in the cast and the acting was top-notch all around, but...  I don't know.  It's just such obvious Oscar bait.  No risk there at all -- I mean, other than sort of wedging history into a neat little inoffensive package.  But at least it's not a prequel, sequel, remake, or reboot.  (I am fully aware of the irony of me complaining about reboots.  Please address all complaints to the Department of Suck It.)

I've seen 6 of the 10 nominated movies (the three mentioned above, plus Black Swan, Toy Story 3, and True Grit).  I think I would say Inception was the best, though it hasn't got much of a chance to win, which is a shame.  Uh, I guess I don't really have much more to say about that.  On to my picks:

Picture -- The King's Speech
Actor -- Colin Firth
Supporting Actor -- Christian Bale
Actress -- Natalie Portman
Supporting Actress -- Helena Bonham-Carter (much as I like her, I would actually prefer it go to Hailee Steinfeld)
Director -- David Fincher
Documentary -- Exit Through the Gift Shop
Short Documentary -- Killing in the Name
Animated -- Toy Story 3
Foreign -- Biutiful
Original Screenplay -- Inception
Adapted Screenplay -- The Social Network
Cinematography -- Black Swan
Makeup -- The Way Back  (what, no Black Swan?)
Art Direction -- The King's Speech
Animated Short -- Let's Pollute
Live Action Short -- Na Wewe
Visual Effects -- Inception
Costume Design -- Alice in Wonderland
Film Editing -- The Social Network
Sound Mixing -- Inception
Sound Editing -- Unstoppable (well, why the fuck not?)
Original Score -- Inception (BWOOOOOOOONG)
Original Song -- "We Belong Together" (why is this still even a category?)

Last year, in case you were wondering, I was 15 for 24 (62.5%).  Perhaps I should start a betting pool on more interesting things, such as How Long Before Someone Makes a Ricky Gervais-Golden Globes Reference or Who Gets the Longest Death Roll Call Applause or Whether James Franco Will Do Something Completely In-fucking-sane and Anne Hathaway Will Just Have to Stand There and Smile.

Five minutes, Tony Curtis, and god I hope so.

Carry It In My Heart (http://robin-pulaski.livejournal.com/1666.html) by [livejournal.com profile] robin_pulaski is ABSOLUTELY the definitive Andrew/Jesse story, IMO.

It captures their voices absolutely perfectly, and fits seamlessly into the filming schedule.

I consider it to be on par with Shoebox, if you're familiar with it, in that it has totally sucked me in and ruined me for all other stories in the fandom :)

It IS a WIP, but it's almost done and they've already hooked up. The place it stops at right now is not a cliffhanger.
