Finally saw X-Men: First Class, and it was definitely... watchable for the slash.  Otherwise kind of silly (e.g. it's a good thing the U.S. Navy captain had CAPT. emblazoned on his helmet, or everyone might have gotten confused).  So... that really is Erik and Charles laying in a bed together.  No Photoshop.  They really are just baiting us now.  Anyone got any good PWP recs?  I don't see myself doing more than dipping a toe in the fandom, but look at me, I'm branching out these days.

Worry not, though -- I think I may only ever write Pinto.  Ever.  For the rest of time.

A word about Twitter: there is no link between Twitter and my RL.  The only possible link I can see is that I used the same e-mail address to sign up that I give to my friends.  However, twice now, Twitter has suggested I follow two different RL college friends.  Does Twitter somehow have access to my Google contacts?  Or their e-mail contacts?  Because at least one of these friends, I'm know I don't have his e-mail listed in my contacts.  I mean, you hear about everything being linked on the internet, but this is just disturbing.  Is Twitter recommending me back to them?

Not that either of these friends would be at all likely to follow me based on my username (which is fandom-only) or that it's obvious from my tweets who I am.  But it's not completely inconceivable that they would be able to figure it out.  And while one of them would find the fact that I talk about writing gay porn hilarious, the other definitely would not.  Fortunately, I almost never link back to this journal from Twitter, so they would have to specifically search LJ for this username to find it.  So the odds of anybody putting the pieces together are miniscule, but they exist.

Oh, internets, you are going to come back to bite me in the ass, aren't you?

Is your email google? If so, yes, everything is recorded. It's why I strictly abstain from any fandom involvement with google-anything, especially google docs.
Consider how ads are tailored. I will look at the Ann Taylor website (I work there) in one tab, and when I refresh my yahoo fandom email in another tab it suddenly displays ads for Ann Taylor. It's not a coincidence.

Oof. Yep, it's Google. I knew they recorded your browsing and scanned your e-mails to tailor the ads, but I didn't think it went that far. At least I don't use Google docs?

In the case of the Ann Taylor ads, that happens because of cookies.

It could be that's how twitter knows things but that's out of my realm of expertise.

Regarding you writing Pinto- certainly glad to hear that.:) Even though I've ventured out with my reading this summer, I know I'll always find my way back to Pinto. You write it, I promise I'll read it.

As far as recs- I find with this fandom, there are a lot I really enjoy, but I don't want to save for rereading so my recs is severely lacking. I will say AO3 is wonderful- most of the x-men authors are putting their fic there so it's pretty complete. It's worth taking a look thru the Explicit tag.

I really like everything by helens78 but my favorite is Got To Sin To Get Saved
(Written for a kinkmeme prompt: "Charles/Erik, AU, dubcon. Erik poses as a sex slave in an attempt to get close to Shaw. Charles tracks Erik down, and the first time they meet, it's in one of the private rooms, where they have to either have sex or fake it for the cameras." Spoiler: they don't fake it.) They've since added more to the story, but it totally can stand alone.

Ohhh, I like that, just that bit that you linked. Handles the telepathy aspect very well, with Erik (and sometimes the reader) not quite knowing whose thoughts are whose. If you have any more specific recs, let me know!

Here are some x-men recs for you. Would have had them to you sooner, but you know how it is, so easy to get distracted and start rereading instead of recing(then AO3 started acting up.) Anyway, enjoy!

Not Alone a post water rescue/meeting for first time PWP.
The Evening Broadcast title is descriptive.
Wisteria Erik hates being unable to hide just how much he wants Charles. My personal head cannon.
Don't Try This At Home You can't make me love you, Erik thinks, except Charles probably could.
given back, but not to keep It starts one morning when, walking down a hallway during a lull between lessons, Erik comments casually to Charles, "Don't forget to train yourself too."
Clubs to Your Diamonds "It's the 60s. Erik and Charles do some recreational drugs, talk philosophy, shotgun and have stoned sex."
Uncompromised A missing scene fic, involving chess and some of my favorite clichés.
Response Charles is smitten with Erik. Erik thinks he can use this to his advantage.
Gonna Have To Ask Nicely Erik and Charles meet a mutant with sex pollen powers.

More fic can be found here and here
both are divided into helpful categories (raining at the mansion; human!AU; mutant!AU; no divorce; etc)

Yep that's happened to me too, in fact I regularly see the same couple of people recommended to me. I do have another rl account that I used the same email to sign up for (not google) so always thought it was because of that but maybe not and do wonder now if, as you say, my fandom account is being suggested to them. And, thinking about it, I did once get a follow request from someone vaguely related to someone I don't know who I follow in my other account who I would never normally have any connection with. I put it down to a freaky coincidence but it seems not now. Eeek!

Yeah, I think this whole "internet anonymity" thing is just a ruse. O_O

Ugh...damn social networks. Only thing I'm ever and always going to be concerned with is just keeping livejournal separate from everything else, and in noooo way would I ever try and tie it to another network. Reading gay porn is my getaway, and I'd much rather no one know that I do.

As far as the XMFC recs, AO3 has a good amount of fic to read and [livejournal.com profile] erik_charles Ive went and dipped my toe into quite a few fandoms (still true to Pinto, that will never change). Course I still can't shake the habit of going going from the fandom to rpf.

And pardon if my coding was wrong there, I'm ridiculously bad with lj and all the formatting :( !

I know; they've made it so hard now to keep one social network away from others. Even if you don't write gay porn, gee, maybe you don't want your Grandma on Facebook to see what you tweet. Has no one considered that possibility? Sheesh.

Thanks for the recs. If you think of any specific fics that are your faves, let me know.

Are you using Chrome? I installed the Disconnect & Facebook Disconnect extensions - via https://chrome.google.com/webstore?category=ext - and it's made my browsing much quicker, and apparently stops stuff being logged as much.

I use Firefox and occasionally IE, not Chrome. Is everyone complicit in this?!

I found this for FF (& yes, sadly, probably. There's a huge Google file with our names in it marked, PORN: Gay, Gayer, Gayest)

...honestly, I just want to know how much of my stuff ended up in the "Gayest" file.

Honestly, I think it uses your IP address to figure out where you are and suggests other users in the area. I don't think it's a Google thing because I have a separate fandom email and open my RL email in a different browser, and I still get creepy suggestions. I've had it suggest I follow a local tack store that someone at my barn owns which FREAKED ME OUT. I use my horse's face as my icon and he is VERY distinctive. People who haven't seen him for ten years recognize him on sight. My twitter is very NSFW so I pray they never get me suggested to them. I wonder if there's a way to block yourself from being suggested to people. (I WISH there was a way to limit who views what tweets - have some public, some seen by only Beans, etc) I'd change my icon but I love it too much :\

Maybe the IP address thing is true, but I'm in Florida and the friends are in Georgia and New York, respectively, so it doesn't explain my situation. And you're right, there needs to be some kind of "private" option for tweets.
