the_deep_magicI know everybody's all a-flutter about the leaked ST pics, but I have something that's just going to BLOW YOUR MIND.
Yeah, so I kind of accidentally made her look like an old Native American man (complete with single tear rolling down cheek), but the model laughed at me for having charcoal smudged all over my face, so I don't feel that bad.
The teacher, predictably, Did Not Like. He says that I've "reverted to drawing eyelashes," and that's "just not going to get [me] there." Yes, okay, the left eye looks a bit cartoony, but I think we've suffered a breakdown in communication. For example, I thought I'd managed to add some nice dimension and texture to the hair, but he seemed to think that the hair on the left side of her face and top of her head should all be one uniform shade "because it's all in the light." Next week I'm just going to draw black scribbles for eyes so the teacher will be happy and the model will look like a horrible pod person.
Seriously, a friend of mine in college once got as an anniversary gift a framed picture her boyfriend had drawn of the two of them. It was a good drawing, but apparently he felt he couldn't do justice to the eyes, so he just blacked them in and it was the creepiest fucking thing ever. Every time I went into her dorm room, I had to purposefully sit or stand so I couldn't see the drawing.
On a completely different note, I don't think this is a spoiler for any particular episode of Project Runway, but doesn't it always seem like if one of the contestants makes something absolutely heinous, something any normal person would look at and go "Sweet Peruvian corncakes, that was designed by a colorblind five-year-old with fine motor control problems," that contestant is never the one kicked off? He/she is usually in the second-to-last place, but it seems like if you go all-out, balls-to-the-wall fugly, you don't get the boot. Remember that guy who made the bikini out of neon pink string and metal washers? He made it through. Seems to me a good strategy if you're absolutely stuck is to just start glue-gunning random shit together and "stick by your design" so the person who "played it safe" will go home.
Also, if Mondo doesn't win this time, I'm gonna set something on fire. Preferably Isaac Mizrahi. I hate that guy.
