Sigh... One day I will enter new fandoms without feeling like I have to explain or defend myself. But today is not that day.
So BBC Sherlock is, like, a really good show, right? And I totally ship that. But I just couldn't get into the fanfic. Not that it's poorly written, because it definitely isn't, but so much of it seems to consist of novel-length angst-a-thons, and that's not generally my brand of escapism. And Avengers has years of awesome canon and an enthusiastic fandom and super-hot dudes all up in each other's space, but I never quite caught on to that, either. What I'm saying is, the quality of the source material does not correlate with my involvement in the fandom.
Which is my super-convoluted, bass-ackwards way of admitting that I watched Teen Wolf.
And the show is so bad. So bad. Which is not, I realize, an unpopular opinion within the fandom, but I'm still trying to wrap my brain around why this one stuck, because underage/overage pairings are one of my long-time biggest, ickiest squicks... and I ship the hell out of Derek/Stiles. Most of the fic I've read is amazeballs -- needless to say, far superior to the show itself -- and I've needed time to process my cognitive dissonance. But even that got shot all to shit when I started fucking writing it without really even meaning to.
I'm just saying that this cannot possibly be my fault. This is
aliassmith's fault, via Twitter, even though she doesn't know it yet and she knows it.
So I've written a thing. Well, actually almost two things: I started on this weird, angsty thing full of seriously epic manpain (no, I don't know why my Muse hates me), but then I came across a kink meme prompt that I started around 12 a.m. and finished at 4, so apparently this is a thing that will not be denied. And here I thought I was so good at denial. Oh, and it's sex pollen fic. Because obviously.
I'll just go ahead and post that here in a minute, then shame spiral my way into a pint of Ben & Jerry's Key Lime Pie. WHAT HAPPENED TO ME.

Date: 2012-09-12 07:34 am (UTC)no need to defend your interests. some things just make for really good fic because the characters are just that exploitable. it happens. *SHRUUUG*
agree w/ avengers diagnosis, but i've seen a few awesome oneshots featuring various pairings.
but... yay for new things?

Date: 2012-09-13 04:44 am (UTC)My new motto is: anything that keeps me writing is a good thing.
And, yeah, I've actually read a couple of random Avengers fics that I really, really dug, mostly rare pairings. Like I totally got sucker punched in the gut by this one Thor/Captain America where they're slow dancing. What even?
