So many epic
pintofest fics to read. Why so awesome, guys? Here, have some random linkses:
Deconstruction of Lady Gaga's latest video. I can't tell if all the Warhol comparisons are tongue-in-cheek or not.
Today's XKCD comic re: Porn for Women. The mouseover text is also made of win -- just mentally substitute "Enterprise" for "Galactica"
An e-card I'm dying to send to somebody; I just don't know who.
I started reading The Somnambulist by Jonathan Barnes today, and I've already discovered two new words that I've never even heard before:
bibulous -- fond of or addicted to drink; absorbent, spongy
oleaginous -- oily; unctuous, fawning, smarmy
Bonus points for anyone who can work them into casual conversation this week!
Got a call from my mom the other night. The first thing you need to understand about her is that when she tells a story, she starts from the beginning. As in the “God created the heavens and the earth beginning.” Also, she just got a Facebook.
So she’s asking me some things about how Facebook works, when all of a sudden she says, “Oh, I got a message from Elaine Marks [not her real name] today! Do you remember her? She had a boy about your age. A few years ago, her family all moved to Tangerine. It’s pretty rural, a few hours away from here, it’s near…”
This goes on for several minutes. I play Free Cell.
“…so apparently she was somewhere on her farm and she found a calf, a baby cow, [thanks, Mom] all by itself! I can’t find what she wrote. Hold on, I’m looking… Oh, there it is! Listen to this: ‘Elaine Marx found an adorable baby calf on her farm in Farmville—”
“Uh, Mom,” I say. “That’s, um, not a real farm.”
“It’s not?”
“No. You know that game [my sister] plays all the time when she’s supposed to be studying? That’s Farmville.”
“Oh,” she says, sounding quite disappointed. “I just though that’s what she called her farm.”
THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
