Okay, pretty random Star Trek question that I've been meaning to ask for a while.  Is there a scene in TOS or one of the movies (or possibly even early TNG) where the inside of the Enterprise starts to melt?

The reason I ask is that I have this very vivid childhood memory of watching the Muppet Babies cartoon, which was constantly using popular movie/TV clips (the reason, by the way, that it will almost certainly never come out on DVD), and they show a non-animated clip of what I think were gray spaceship walls melting because it got too close to the sun, and for some reason I've always had it in my mind that the scene came from Star Trek.

I could be wrong -- it could be from something else entirely, or I could've just dreamed the whole damn thing.  I remember it so clearly, though, because it scared the shit out of me.  I had just read about the sun eventually turning into a red giant and scorching the earth, but somehow skipped over the part where it was going to happen millions of years in the future and I was therefore sure it was going to happen at any moment and EVERYTHING WAS GOING TO MELT, WHAT THE HELL, WHY DO I NEED TO LEARN MULTIPLICATION.

Anyhow, if anybody knows what I might be thinking of -- or the name of a good hypnotist -- please to let me know.

Well, the whole: too close to the sun thing, is obviously pretty old (icarus!) but I do know that there's an ep of TNG where a women dies by kind of becoming fused with the floor. I have not seen this ep though, it was just mentioned in a list or something, maybe she sunk into a molten floor though? Or something?

Yikes! Transporter accident, maybe? I don't seem to remember any people in the melting-ness.

Found it, number 6:

It's not melty at all though.

But now that you mention transporters: I remember someody mentioning (and somebody worked it into a fic about McCoy too, I think) that there was a transporter accident in one of the TOS movies where two people basically come out as slush. That seems much more likely to be what you remember.

Here's at least fanart of a transporter accident (it's not pretty):

That page has an article that includes a pic of the accident in TMP, though it seems nothing much was actually shown in the movie. Pic is therefore harmless.

This vid is a compilation of transporter accidents and they have the TMP one at 1:15, followed by a similar scene from DS-9, that was aparently more graphic.

er, random drive by lurker comment? In Catspaw, the Bad Alien(s) of the day make the Enterprise get super-hot by holding a voo-doo charm of the Enterprise over a candle-- cue everyone on the ship dying of sweat and trying to keep the hull from melting.... that's as close to what you're looking for as I remember.

Hmm... I'll have to pull up that episode on Hulu. Thanks for the lead! :o)

My own maybe-induced-by-ST childhood phobia: I think I remember seeing a TNG(?) episode when I was, like, 3 or 4 years old-- some alien was taking over the ship, and someone's tongue fell out (Data's? maybe? I don't know?). I haven't actually gotten around to watching TNG and DS9 yet (I have to finish TOS first), but when/if I ever get to the tongue-falling-out episode (if it even exists) I will probably have a really weird moment of "OHGOD I HAD SO MANY NIGHTMARES ABOUT THIS AS A CHILD/...oh, this isn't even that bad, what kind of dumb kid was I". coolstorybro

No, no, I get it -- it's totally creepy. It's the weird little stuff like that that makes for the real horror!
